USER CHAT

Feedback indicated that users want to send each other in-app messages. We launched User Chat in April of 2022. A prototype can be seen here. The design file in its entirety can be seen here.

The MVP

Fullcourt is a young startup with limited resources. When introducing new features, we launch quickly and refine on the fly. This requires assumptions about what to include in version one and what to save for version two.

What we included:

  • Direct messaging between 2 or more users with basic indicators (name, time, etc.).

  • Automatic creation of a group chat when a game is created.

  • The ability to block users.

  • The ability to leave a chat.

  • Automatic archiving of game chats 48 hours after a game.

What we'll add later:

  • Ability to add and remove users from a chat.

  • Ability to report abuse.

  • In-chat reactions (emojis/stickers).

LOCATION-FINDER REDESIGN

One of my first design challenges with Fullcourt was a complete re-design of our map.

Key Changes:

  • Dark theme to light theme as the app is mostly used outside.

  • Pin redesign, which included specialty pins for common fitness centers.

  • Addition of Certified Courts.

  • Addition of court names on our map view. Particularly challenging was creating rules to handle collisions.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE REWORK

I redesigned the overall navigation to improve visual hierarchy and make the main features of the app easier to access.

Nav

What I've changed:

  • Introduced a bottom navigation to house the key areas of our app.

  • Improved hierarchy by standardizing primary, secondary, and tertiary CTAs.

  • Improved user experience through better placement of CTAs.

  • Brought improved logic to the app's overall organization.

  • Designed a new filter system to help users view relevant information.
